Learn how to read minds by looking through the windows to the soul.

Blinking
- Fast blinking can mean a number of things, but the most common are feelings of stress/anxiety or thinking more; this can also be prevalent in liars, as someone lying can be thinking about whatever lie they’re coming up with. But beware because the best liars are the ones who understand body language. Some will force their eyes open to appear more honest.
- Throughout the study of body language, it is agreed that mirroring each other indicates fondness for the other. Therefore, blinking at the same rate as the other person near you can indicate rapport or agreement.
- One single blink can indicate surprise or disbelief.
- Rapid blinking has two possibilities: arrogance and flirtation (i.e., batting the eyelashes).
- Reduced blinking can indicate intense interest in the subject (such as staring) or a dominant glare.
Looking Up
- Looking upwards often means the person is in the process of thinking, particularly making pictures in their head. Depending on the context, they could be recalling words or events.
- Looking upwards to the left could indicate recalling a memory.
- Looking upwards to the right could indicate imagination, such as fabricating something, which could hint at a liar.
- Simply glancing around at the room could mean that the person is bored and is looking for something more interesting to catch their attention. However, this could vary. Several mental factors can make this vary, with the most prevalent being autism, as autistic people can struggle with making eye contact.
- The head is lowered, and the eyes look up at the other person, which indicates submissiveness and attractiveness. However, this is typically paired with a coy smile or another pleasant facial expression—paired with a frown, it could indicate judgment.
Looking Down
- Looking down at a person indicates a feeling of superiority or domination. However, looking down to avoid looking at the person could indicate submissiveness. It can also mean that the person feels guilty.
- A way to tell the difference is if a person tilts their head back while looking down; this indicates that whoever they’re looking down to is superior.
- Looking down to the left means they are perhaps talking to themselves while lost in a train of thought. Looking down to the right means that they are focusing on internal emotions, probably suppressing them or simply thinking about them.
Looking Sideways
- Either distracted by something or trying to become distracted; boredom.
- Irritation
- Looking left is indicative of recalling a sound. Looking right is indicative of imagining one.
- Eyes moving side-to-side could indicate lying as if looking for an escape route. This can also happen during rapid visualization.
Gazing
- Simply put, looking at something shows interest in it. People will often mirror the gaze to follow what you could be looking at.
- When looking at a person, it is usually at eye contact or above.
- Looking up and down at a person is almost always a power play. It could either indicate that the viewer feels dominant and superior to the other person, or it could indicate sexual attraction.\
- Looking at their forehead signals disinterest.
- Staring somebody in the eye for a short period of time is a power gaze. This is a signal of power without aggression.
- It’s pretty hard not to notice somebody staring at you, even if it’s just for a short while. If you’re staring at somebody for whatever reason, you will be caught, so just be smart.
- Sometimes, you can guess where somebody is from (with other factors included) based on how long they hold a gaze. Different cultures have different customs regarding eye contact. For example, Germans are known to stare at people, and it’s considered completely normal where they live.
Glancing
- This portrays a desire for something. Glancing at a piece of candy across the room could mean you want a piece. Glancing at a door could indicate that you want to leave. Glancing at a person could indicate that you want to talk to them. Etc.
- A side glance with straight eyebrows indicates disapproval while a side glance with a raised eyebrow indicates flirtation.
Eye Contact
- Eye contact indicates a clear sign of harmonious communication, agreeance, interest, affection, or even dominance.
- When a person makes minimal eye contact, they may be feeling insecure, lying, or not wanting to be detected.
Doe Eyes
Indicates sexual desire and is usually paired with submissiveness, along with dilated pupils and prolonged gazing.
Squinting
- Narrowing of the eyes indicates evaluation or uncertainty.
- Some liars will squint to make it harder for others to detect their lies.
- It can also happen if the environment they are in is too bright
Winking
Conspirational or flirtatious.
Closing
- Shuts out the world. “I pretend I do not see.”
- Some people close their eyes when talking. This indicates irritability, as they practically ignore the person they’re talking to.
- Visual thinkers may close their eyes to focus better.
Damp
- Suppressed crying, anxiety, fear, or sadness. Person may have been crying recently.
- Also indicates tiredness.
- Tears don’t automatically indicate negative emotions. Sometimes, this could mean that the person was laughing so hard it brought tears to their eyes. Context is everything.
Tears
- Tears, in general, are indicative of intense emotions, whether it be anger, sadness, fear, or happiness.
- Facial expression can hint towards the amount of control the person has over their intense emotions.
Pupils
- Dilated pupils indicate attractiveness.
- Contracted pupils may indicate the opposite: disgust, disapproval, etc.
- When someone is thinking more, their eyes may dilate.
